Lipstick is a quick way to update your look, but this season going for the classic shiny version is the quickest way to look old fashioned.
Matte shades will continue to reign supreme according to international make-up artist Nathalie Eleni, who has worked with the likes of Angelina Jolie, Charlize Theron, Jessica Alba and Jennifer Lopez.
"Matte lipstick is just a big trend, it's a much more modern way to wear a statement lip," she explained. "It's sort of less high maintenance because you can just pat it into your lip; it doesn't have to be all perfect lines and then blot. It's more casual and a bit cooler.
Matte lipsticks will be going through to Autumn/Winter because they're so popular. They're very flattering and they make your lips look bigger."
More and more brands are bringing out this kind of product, meaning they are easy to get your hands on. Bourjois' Rouge Edition Velvet Matte offers a wide range of shades and they have excellent staying power, or Nathalie made some suggestions if you'd like a more expensive treat.
Nathalie has some advice on nailing the matte look if you're a newcomer. It's important to think about the rest of your face when going for such a bold lip look - and it's not just about toning down your eyes; the actual products you use are a consideration too. Powdery skin with matte lips and a dull blush looks old fashioned, so it's time to mix things up.
"Matte lipsticks and cream blusher!" the make-up star enthused. "Because I think when you have matte or when you have cream on your skin, you need to balance it. So if you've got shiny cheekbones, shiny lips, shiny eyes, it's just too much. If you're quite matte, it's nice to add a soft highlight or a cream blush. It's a slight glow."
